Calling veg lovers in Letterkenny and Stranorlar / Ballybofey - Get your organic veg boxes from this Friday 1 August!
We are super excited! To coincide with our 50th delivery run this Friday, we are opening up a new delivery route to Ballybofey, Stranorlar and Letterkenny, building on our base in south Donegal.
This means that from this Friday 1 August - and running into the Autumn - people in Letterkenny and Stranorlar / Ballybofey can sign up for certified organic community veg boxes. To secure your slot, sign up at https://www.shybynaturefarm.ie/ - limited spaces available.
The collection points in Letterkenny are at the Community Centre, McKenna’s Gala in The Oldtown and at the Asian Food Store in Ballyraine, plus in Stranorlar / Ballybofey at The Base. They join our other hosts who help us and where you can also get veg from us: Simple Simon’s in Donegal Town, Breslin’s Petrol Station in Killybegs, John Molloy Woollen Mills in Ardara and The Kelvon in Glenties.
Ten things to know about our veg box:
Veg is certified organic and we practice regenerative agriculture - That means it is good for community, nature and our family for generations to come
Boxes come in three sizes - small, medium and large - With different vegetable portions to suit the needs and love of veg of different sized households. Small has 5-6 portions, Medium 7-9, Large 10-11
Available on a weekly, fortnightly or one off basis
Veg is harvested fresh and delivered on Fridays - The crew mixes up the veg across the weeks so there is variety, while ensuring you get the staples you love (potatoes, onions, salad favourites, leafy greens, herbs). Plus surprises!
Sliding scale pricing - Those that are able to, contribute more, so those that might not be able to afford organic food can pay less. Prices are €10 - €22 for Small, €15 to €29 for Medium and €16 to €36 for Large. This helps us widen access to certified organic veg, improving community health in a small but meaningful way
Pick up from collection points is free, home delivery for an extra charge
Choose from Add ons including homemade bread and microgreens - Add items such as homemade bread from Thomas Becht’s Sustainable Landuse Company farm in Glenties or microgreens from Jaime Leigh of The Grow House in Rossnowlagh to your box
Pause or sponsor a box - You can pause your box if you need to (for example if you are going on holiday), or divert it to the families supported by the Bluestack Special Needs Foundation. Since 2023, more than 170 boxes have been donated (includes boxes sponsored for the whole season)
Small scale network - Occasionally we source veg and produce from Irish certified organic friends and farmers. We aim to nurture a network of growers that support each other
More than just a veg box - Saturdays are volunteer days on the farm - You are welcome to come tend to the veg and get to know the team that grows it. Starting from 10am each Saturday, there is always something happening. Plus a tasty lunch and lovely veg lovers. Check out some of the recent happenings on the farm below!
