Farm Open Day on Saturday 12 July, plus two-thirds of slots for this year’s organic veg box filled

It’s a great season here on the farm - we’ve got our Farm Open Day coming up on Saturday 12 July, if you want to see and taste the veg here. Plus the first veg box of the year (now fully certified organic) went out last Friday, with almost two-thirds of slots available filled so far for this year. To secure your box visit https://vegbox.shybynaturefarm.ie/boxes.

Farm Open Day

From 10am to 2pm on Saturday 12 July, we will be having a Farm Open Day. We would love to see old friends and make some new ones. Come tour of the gardens, see where we grow and tend to the veg for the community veg box, taste the veg (we've got some excellent cooks here), meet the crew of local and international volunteers, and see the donkeys, sheep and of course the dogs.

RSVP by emailing shybynaturefarm@gmail.com or whatsapp 0894032153. Facebook folks can register interest at https://fb.me/e/3jXhVNHTK.

Saturdays are volunteer days

Every Saturday is a volunteer day here. Starting from 10am, rain or shine, there is always something happening. Includes a tasty lunch and lovely veg lovers.

A massive thank you to all that helped get the veg ready for this year’s boxes - from family, to volunteers, neighbours and friends. Also a big thank you to our box customers - it really is an immense and wonderful feeling when a box goes out to know that people across south Donegal are eating the vegetables that we have sown, grown, tended to and harvested.

Also to our collection point hosts who enable us to reach around south Donegal: Simple Simon's in Donegal Town, Breslin's Petrol Station in Killybegs, John Molloy Woolen Mill in Ardara and The Kelvon in Glenties. Also to the restaurants and cafes who support us too who keep us going from Spring to Winter.

To sign up to the box, check out https://vegbox.shybynaturefarm.ie/boxes.

How does it work we hear you ask?

  • Size - The veg box comes in three sizes - small, medium and large - with different vegetable portions to suit the needs and love of veg of different sized households

  • Frequency - Choose one off, weekly or fortnightly

  • Price - we’ve got sliding scale pricing to help widen access to regenerative organic veg. Those that can afford to, pay or contribute more for their boxes, so that those that might not be able to afford organic food can pay less

  • Collection - Veg is harvested fresh and delivered on Fridays to collection points across at Simple Simons in Donegal Town, Breslin’s Petrol Station in Killybegs, John Molloy Woolen Mill in Ardara and The Kelvon in Glenties. Home delivery is also available

  • What’s in it? The crew here chooses and mixes up the vegetables across the weeks so there is variety, while ensuring that people get the staples they love - such as potatoes, salad favourites, summer veg, leafy greens and flavoursome herbs. Plus there are always some surprises

  • Add ons - Customers also have the opportunity to add additional items alongside their box such as delicious homemade bread from Thomas Becht’s Sustainable Landuse Company farm in Glenties or tasty microgreens from Jaime Leigh of The Grow House in Rossnowlagh.
